2009 Joint Defense/Veterans Audiology Conference (JDVAC)

"Two Forces, One Mission"

The  2009 AVAA meeting, in conjunction with the Military Audiology Association meeting, will be held at the Phoenix Mariott Mesa Hotel in Phoenix, AZ  March 2 through 4, 2009.  The annual meeting of the American Auditory Society (AAS)  in Scottsdale follows from March 5 to 7.

Preliminary three day program arrangements include:

One day (Monday) dedicated to AVAA matters:

-National Office Report
-AVAA Business Meeting
-Mentoring
-Ethics in VA

Tuesday and Wednesday will be joint AVAA/MAA meetings.  Among topics being considered are:

-Issues surrounding Compensation & Pension Examinations
-Audiology's role in assessing patients who have experienced Polytrauma or TBI
-Audiologic considerations of the handoff, transitioning from Active Duty to Veteran status.
-Breakout sessions will be scheduled to allow collegial interaction in a less formal atmosphere.

There will be seminar presentations by invited speakers. In addition, we will be combining traditions of the two organizations, the 15 minute podium research presentations in the MAA tradition and the poster presentions of the AVAA.  A call for podium and poster presentations will be announced soon.
